Individual Speech Therapy
Speech Language Therapy involves the assessment and diagnosis of a variety of communication disorders resulting from a variety of reasons (e.g developmental delays, sensory processing disorder, etc.). Speech therapy requires an extensive and thorough evaluation of communication skills and an individualized treatment plan.
Our Speech Language Pathologists are nationally board certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and are licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathology. Our clinicians use a variety of treatment philosophies to address communication and articulation delays and disorders. They are able to individualize therapy programs using treatment methods incorporating the work of Stanley Greenspan (Floortime), Barry Prizant, Amy Wetherby (S.C.E.R.T.S.) and Deborah Hayden (PROMPT method). Each patient’s communicative function is assessed and treated based on their strengths and emerging skills in the sensory, cognitive, and social domains.
Individual Speech and Language Therapy sessions often benefit the following disorders/delays:
- Apraxia of Speech
- Non-Verbal or Speech Delay
- Motor Speech Disorders
- Articulation Disorders
- Aphasia
- Dysarthria
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Down Syndrome
- Cerebral Palsy
- Fluency Disorders
- Expressive-Receptive Language Disorders
- Auditory Processing Disorders
- Executive Functioning Disorders
- Social Pragmatic Language Disorders
- Social Communication Skills
Social Skills Groups
Speech Wings offers weekly social groups based on age and skill level. Groups are clinician led and consist of curriculum based skill training and spontaneous social interaction time. This format gives our patients a chance to practice new social skills, work through challenges and form friendships in a naturalistic unforced environment, all in real time!
Offerings are limited so please call 469-872-9201 for availability.
P.R.O.M.P.T. Therapy
P.R.O.M.P.T is a dynamic tactile method of treatment for motor speech disorders which is based on touch pressure, kinesthetic and proprioceptive cues. It helps to reshape individual and connected articulatory phonemes and sequences (coarticulation). The clinician helps to manually guide articulators to produce specific sounds or words that seem to be problematic. This is a hands-on approach and thus the clinician uses his/her hands to cue and stimulate articulatory movement, at the same time helping the child to limit unnecessary movements. “The PROMPT© System imposes control on the articulators by providing tactile and kinesthetic (closed-loop) feedback, while guiding the structures toward sequential feed-forward (open-loop) programming.” Generally, this reduces inappropriate feedback and shows the correct sequence of movements to achieve “normal” articulation.
The PROMPT© System stands for:
