Teletherapy Here We Come!
We are aware of the widespread concern in our community about the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), and we want you to know that your health and safety are our top priority at Speech Wings Therapy.
With the increasing uncertainty and growing number of infected individuals around the world, it is so important to take a proactive approach to minimize exposure and spread. At this time, many schools and therapy practices are closing for the time being.
So, effective immediately, we will be moving to teletherapy to continue to serve our patients and families! This is uncharted territory for us, so please be patient as we get the new system up and running. As always, if you have questions please feel free to contact us.
What is teletherapy? What does it mean for your child and family?
Teletherapy is speech-language therapy delivered via online, live video streaming. The sessions will be similar to traditional speech therapy sessions, but instead of meeting in person, everything will be digital. Our goal is to carry out your child’s current plan of care in this new and innovative way. Our clinic will be using Blink Session, a new HIPAA compliant, video telehealth service.
Please be mindful that many of our speech sessions will now require more parent or caregiver involvement, as we will not be physically present with you and your child. We will provide skilled therapy by teaching concepts and practicing skills, creating visual supports and social stories, and collaborating with families via parent training.
We encourage you to schedule a secure video appointment with us. Research shows that they can be just as effective as in-person speech therapy appointments, and we can continue your care without interruption. If you’d like to participate in teletherapy, please sign and return the consent form attached below!
Please refer to the CDC’s dedicated 2019-ncov website for additional information, and maintain awareness by checking the official communications from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO). We have included the link to a social story about the Coronavirus to help your child in this difficult time.
